LARGER ASSISTED LIVING COMMUNITIES VS SMALLER COMMUNITIES
All communities are unique and cater to different needs. If your loved one is social and active, it is important to find placement in a larger community with other high functioning residents and an exceptional activities program. Communities with a Recreational Therapist are preferred. Upon touring ask for an activities calendar and be sure to compare community calendars. Larger communities tend to foster a restaurant style dining experience and more amenities. In a smaller assisted living with fifteen residents, you can expect the nursing assistants to handle many obligations that a large assisted living has staffed full time including cooking housekeeping and activities.
Smaller communities may not have a full time maintenance staff, repairs and preventative maintenance can tend to lack. In some cases, ownership performs maintenance on weekends. Some families prefer the homelike setting of a smaller community, while other prefer the apartment resort type feel of larger communities.
